Here are some step by step instructions on how to: Melted Crayon Art!
I have seen Crayon Melting all over Pinterest and I finally decided to try it. It is a lot easier than it may look! It was a very cheap and fun craft costing around $10 or less!
Supplies needed:
- 14"x 18" canvas
- 64 pack of crayons
- hair dryer
- hot glue gun
I got all of the supplies (not including the hair dryer and glue gun) for less than 10 dollars at Walmart.
Step 1.
I started by removing all the colors I didn't want, like the browns, grays, whites etc. It still left me with plenty of crayons to cover the canvas with.
Step 2.
Next your going to want to lay them out as desired before gluing them. This will give you an idea of where each color should go. I started at red and continued in the order if the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple/indigo and violet, plus adding pink)
Once your finished laying them in order its time to start gluing.
Step 3.
Now its time to start gluing them on the canvas. Make sure to keep them in the order you placed them in. I just pushed them all down a bit, leaving them in order, to give me room to glue at the top. Also Note: I placed my canvas horizontally, if you do it vertically you will need less crayons. Doing it Horizontally used all the crayons (except for the ones i excluded).
Step 4.
Now its time to melt the crayons! Make sure you have an area that can get messy, because you may or may not get crayon splatter everywhere. I turned my hair dryer on high so it can make the crayons melt faster. Just start by holding the hair dryer above the crayons for a few minutes, until it starts to melt. It took them longer to melt than I was expecting. Once it is melted as much as you want you can start blowing a different section and begin the same process. Make sure you hold the hair dryer ABOVE the crayons! if you hold it below them the crayon will splatter everywhere! I learned that the hard way...
Once you get going its very easy and fun! You can blow on them as long as you want, it just depends on how far you want the crayons to melt down the canvas. Some sections may not get heated as much, which means you may want to blow that area again. Once its all melted as much as you would like you are done!!!
This is what your finished product will look similar to! It is a very easy and simple craft to do! You can also do a bigger or smaller canvas or make a shape. I have seen people place the crayons in the shape of a heart. I decided since its my first time, just to do it the simple way. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial on Melted Crayon Art!
